cupcake inspiration

This is my first week as guest designer at Dotties World. The challenge is:

"For this week's challenge I would like you to take inspiration from this photo of yummy cupcakes. You could focus on the colours, use a cupcake on your work or make a cupcake shaped card - it's up to you. You must include one of the Charmed downloads on your project and please tell us how the photo inspired you in your make"

I decided to combine this challenge with the sketch challenge at Friday Sketchers.

For my card, I was drawn by the pinks and blues in the photo, as well as those yummy looking cupcakes and I just knew I had to make my own. Unfortunately, as I am quite partial to cupcakes and am particularly fond of the icing, it kind of took on a life of its own :-) Shame I can't eat it!
I used both sides the Prima ~ Angelique Collection: Wings. One side has been machine sewn onto Bazzill cardstock.
The cupcake base was made from a piece of vellum which I folded into a concertina format and added a strip of ribbon to the bottom to neaten it up. The 'icing' was made by roughly tearing a cupcake icing shape and then curling up the edges so that the other side of the paper showed through. I also added some distressed paper circles and decorated with sequins, pearls and buttons from my stash.

The image is Madison ~ Gift.

I coloured Holly with my Copics and added a little sequined flower and bead to her hat. For the ribbon on the present and the buckle of the belt, I coloured in with a glue pen and then added a sprinkling of Doodlebug glitter. Madison has been matted onto a layer of distressed paper.
The 'Happy Birthday' sentiment is by Penny Black, which I stamped onto vellum, inked up the edges and clear embossed it.
Thank you for looking.

girly

Today I am entering into this week's challenge at Dotties World. The challenge is to find a photo of a card made previously and recreate the layout with different papers, embellishments and a Charmed image.

This is the card from the past, together with the sketch I used to create it:

At the time I spun the sketch on its side, and I have done the same with my new card. I have used pink Bazzill cardstock for my base. The girly paper is Love elsie ~ Claire: Girly. I have distressed the edges and zigzag stitched it on to the cardstock with my sewing machine, together with the mauve lace.
This is Holly ~ Pamper Time from the Holly and Madison Collection at Dottie's World. I coloured her up with my Copics. Oh and I managed to find a tiny little gem of the right colour to act as a buckle on her belt.
I also coloured the pearl beads at the foot of Holly with my copics to match the image.
Ribbons are from the same Love elsie ~ Claire range.
The buttons were from my stash and I sewed them on by hand.
By the way, if you enter this challenge you will be entitled to a free image from the new Holly & Madison collection at Dottie's World ~ so head on over!!
Thank you for looking.

you inspire me

I may be too late to enter this challenge, but no winner has been announced yet and I've slaved over this all evening (lol), so I am going to enter it anyway!

When I first saw this sketch over at One Stop Craft Challenge I thought it would be too fussy for the sort of work I am doing at the moment. Then this evening, when I was hunting around for a sketch, I came across it again and knew immediately, that it was perfect for what I now wanted to do! Isn't it funny how that happens. In fact, I thoroughly enjoyed putting it all together, so thank you Sharon for the sketch!!

Oh and by the way, I blog hop all the time and am inspired everywhere I go, so this card is for all of you ~ thank you for the inspiration.

As in my previous posting, once again all papers are from We R Memory Keepers ~ Hoopla range, as is the 'You inspire me' chipboard embellishment. I can't tell you exactly which papers from the range I used ~ if you saw the state of my craft room right now, I am sure you will understand!!

I layered each of the dp onto cream cardstock, having first distressed the edges of all layers. For the banding across the centre (and the ribbon in the chipboard tag), I used sheer gold ribbon from my stash and a Bazzill ~ Just the edge cardstock strip.
The image is Magnolia ~ Tilda with Pencils. This is an old Tilda but new for me. Isn't she darling?
I coloured her up with my copics.
All flowers are by Prima and brads are an assortment from my stash.
Thank you for looking, all comments are very much appreciated.

holly in the garden

The gals over at Dottie's World gave such a friendly response to me last week when I joined in with their challenge, that I couldn't help but come back again.

The theme this week is 'A stitch in time' where the challenge is to use real stitching ~ hand or machine. Well, my entry uses both!

Looking around for a sketch, I came across a brand new, for the very first time, challenge blog at Truly Scrumptious.

Here is the sketch.

I must say, FAB sketch, I thoroughly enjoyed doing this, even though it took me forever!!

The cardstock I used was all from the We R Memory Keepers ~ Hoopla range and I used Delight and Gala.
All plain cardstock is Bazzil.
The ribbons used are all from the same WRMK range as is the chipboard flower through which the ribbons are threaded.
I used the Gala paper to cut out circles and distressed the edges before layering and finishing with a button. All buttons are sewn on by hand.
The floral paper has been machine zig-zag stitched to the bazzil cardstock.

The buttons in the centre have been layered one on top of each other before stitching through to the ribbon it sits on.

The image is from Dottie's World and is Holly in the Garden. I coloured her up with my copics.

Thank you for looking and I appreciate any comments you may have.

high maintenance

I don't think that Deb had come across the term 'high maintenance' in a person until she offered to update my blog with a fresh new Spring look.

And then she surprised me with birds ;-) and a GORJUSS GIRL!!!

Talking of which, I am hopping from foot to foot waiting for my new stamps to arrive!

Thanks Deb, I know I drove you to distraction, but I love my new look and I appreciate all your hard work :-)))

Nan's Birthday Card

I made this card for my Grandmother's Birthday using this week's sketch at Friday Sketchers.

The base card is made from a piece of olive green Bazzil cardstock.

All patterned papers used are from Basic Grey ~ Stella Ruby collection and I used Tea with Jane, Ladies Book Club, Clouds in the Park and Springtime Soiree.
Here is the card in full:

The circles and ovals were cut with my Cricut machine. I inked the edges with Tim Holtz ~ Distress Ink in Peeled Paint and Mustard Seed.
The image is Magnolia ~ Tilda with Apple Pie and I coloured her with my Copics.

The sentiment is computer generated, the flowers are Prima and the brads and ribbon were from my stash.

Thank you for looking.

happy valentine's day

This is the card I have made for my Valentine (I hope he likes it!). It is also my entry into this week's challenge at The Sugar Bowl. The challenge this week is to use only one piece of patterned design paper and a Sugar Nellie stamp.

The patterned paper I used is My Mind's Eye ~ Just Like Us.

The Sugar Nellie image is Choose by Leanne Ellis and I coloured her with my Copics. I cut out all of those little bits of leaves, flowers and hearts and stuck them to the card, and yes, it did take me forever!
The padded heart is by Making Memories and the cardstock used is Bazzil.
The zig zag at the top and bottom of the card is a rub-on from K&Co ~ Classic K McKenna Stitches.
Thank you for looking.

puppy love

The sketch I have used comes from this week's challenge at A Spoon Full of Sugar.

I really had great fun putting this together, and the sketch fitted in perfectly with the look I was trying to achieve. I loved all of its many layers and it enabled me to create lots of dimension on my finished piece.

I managed to combine two different manufacturer's patterned papers and for one, three different lines! I only just noticed this as I was typing it all up.

I used Bazzill cardstock for the first two layers. The stripey paper is S.E.I. ~ Park Buddies: Puppy Tails and the checked paper is Dog Run from the same range.

I used Sassafraslass ~ Fawnd of You Too: Take A Chance for the background paper. All papers have had ink blended into the edges. The tree, together with the extra branch were cut from Sassafraslass ~ Woodland Whimsy: Say Timber. I stuck these onto chipboard and cut them out. I inked up the edges of the tree and to make it a bit more realistic looking and feeling like bark, I added some Tim Holtz ~ Distress Embossing Powder: Aged Mahogany randomly and distressed away! The clouds are cut from Sassafraslass ~ My Dearest: Fawnd of You added to chipboard and had some ink blended in.
The flowers are Prima and again I added some ink to these and the brads were from my stash.
The inks I used for blending and highlighting the edges were:
Ranger Adirondack: Butterscotch and Espresso; and Tim Holtz Distress Ink: Peeled Paint and Mustard Seed.
The image is Magnolia ~ Tilda with Puppy (cute!)and I coloured her with my Copics. I stuck her on with double sided foam pads and she is sitting on a strip of puppy ribbon from Love Elsie ~ Daisy.

Thank you for looking.

garden journal

For the cover of a garden journal, I used the sketch from this week's challenge at Stamp with Stampavie.

Here is the sketch: I spun the sketch around and this is what I came up with:

The patterned papers are from the Prima ~ Steel Toe Mary Jane collection. I used Chintzy for the base card.
The stamped image is Sarah Kaye ~ Spring Blossoms. I was going to colour her up with my copics, but when I took the acetate backing off of the stamp it landed on the Chintzy paper, in such way that I decided I should paper piece her. Easier said, than done - it would have been quicker to colour her up!
I used Chintzy for her clothing and flowers. I made the hat from Miss Adventure and also the oval shadow. The ribbon on the hat is from We R Memory Keepers ~ Promenade. The scissors were cut from some silver paper.
I decided to leave the skin parts uncoloured. Finally, it came to the hair. I thought about leaving it untouched, colouring it or paper piecing. Then it came to me! The back parting would show up great with some satin stitching! So I trawled through my threads to find something suitable. I ended up using Weeks Dye Works ~ Schneckley.
The edges of the ovals were dabbed with Ranger Paint Dabber ~ Mountain Rose.
The lacey ribbon trim is from the Making Memories ~ Passport collection and is attached with Papermania pearl brads and a Basic Grey ~ Euphoria glazed brad.
The butterfly is a K&Co Glitter Rub On ~ Urban Rhapsody. I rubbed this onto a piece of scrap card and cut it out. The 'garden journal' wording is computer generated and then embossed.
Thank you for looking.
